Half price for students, faculty and university staff

Academic Pro is $9 a month or $90 a year before tax, half the price of Pro, with a smaller monthly Lexi allowance. Verify once with a student or staff ID; the approval lasts a year. A .edu address is not what proves it.

How verification works

  1. 1

Tell us where you study or work

Your name as it appears on your document, your institution, and your role. We use the email address already on your account, so use your academic one if you have it.

  2. 2

    Attach one document

A current transcript, or a student or staff ID card. Nothing else, because those two are the only documents that reliably show a name, an institution and a date. A photo taken on your phone is fine as long as all three are readable.

  3. 3

Get an answer, usually straight away

A first check runs immediately. If anything is unclear it goes to a person rather than being refused, which takes up to three business days. Either way you get an email. Approval lasts a year, and we delete the document a day after the decision.

Academic pricing FAQ

Is there a student discount for LetX?

Yes. Academic Pro is $9 a month or $90 a year, half the price of Pro. It is its own plan rather than Pro at a discount: compiles, build time, version history, priority queue and GitHub sync match Pro, and the monthly Lexi allowance is smaller. Students, faculty and university staff all qualify on the same terms. You verify once, and the approval lasts a year.

Do I need a .edu email address?

Register with your academic address if you have one. It is not the proof, because plenty of real universities use domains that look nothing like an academic domain and disposable .edu addresses are sold openly, but we check it against your document, so an account opened with a personal address takes longer to approve. The proof itself is one of two documents: a current transcript, or a student or staff ID card.

What happens to the ID I upload?

It goes to private storage, is never published anywhere, and is deleted once your application is decided. We keep the decision and the reason, not the picture. You are welcome to black out anything that is not your name, photo, institution and dates.

How long does verification take?

Most applications are decided in a few seconds. When the automated check is not certain a person reads it instead, which takes up to three business days. You get an email either way, and there is nothing else for you to do while you wait.

What if my application is rejected?

The email tells you exactly why, and you can apply again with a clearer photo or a different document. There are three applications a month, so a bad photo costs you nothing. If you think a decision was wrong, reply to the email and a person will look at it.

What do I get on the academic plan?

Unlimited compiles, full version history, priority compile queue, GitHub import and export, and a monthly allowance of Lexi, the AI assistant built into the editor. Everything there matches Pro except the Lexi allowance, which is smaller. That difference is what the lower price pays for, and it is worth knowing before you buy rather than after.

Is LetX free for students without this?

Yes. The free plan is genuinely usable: unlimited collaborators, 40 compiles a day, your last 15 versions of history, and all 1,000+ templates. Academic pricing is for people who have outgrown the daily compile limit, not a paywall on the basics.

Can my department buy licences for everyone?

Yes, and it works out cheaper than individual academic plans. A department or university licence gives every member Pro on a shared workspace with an admin console, roles and bulk invites. Contact us from the pricing page and we will set it up.

Not an academic? See standard pricing. Buying for a whole department? University licences cost less per person.
